Are Dogs Allowed on the Kiawah Beach?
Yes, dogs are allowed on the Kiawah beach year-round! In fact, our beautiful island has over 10 miles of pristine, pet-friendly beach. You'll love taking your four-legged loved ones on your morning beach runs, sunset walks, or casual strolls. There are rules and regulations in place for your four-legged friends.
Kiawah Island Pet Policies & Regulations
General Pet Policies
According to the Town of Kiawah Island, pets must be leashed at all times when they are outside unless they are contained in an enclosed area. The only exception to this rule is on the beach where there is a designated, year-round dog off-leash area and seasonal leash restrictions for the remainder of the beach. Leash ordinances are enforced by Beach Patrol, who may issue fines.
Year-Round Policies
Between the eastern boundary of the Beach Club and the Ocean Course Clubhouse, dogs are allowed off-leash from 7AM-7PM year-round. Pets must be leashed in this area from 7PM to 7AM. Likewise, owners must be with their pet, have the pet under control, and have a leash with them in the event that there is a need to leash the pet or if requested by other beachgoers or Beach Patrol.
Seasonal Policies (November 1 - March 15)
During this period, pets are allowed to be off-leash from 7AM to 7PM everywhere (except for the critical habitat areas) on Kiawah’s beach. Additionally, owners must be with their pet, have the pet under control, and have a leash with them in the event that there is a need to leash the pet or if requested by other beachgoers or Beach Patrol.
