Charleston in April is a magical time. The flowers are blooming, the weather seems almost perfect, and locals welcome the visitors that are in town to enjoy their spring break with family and friends. If you are visiting Kiawah Island for a spring trip in the month of April, join us at these awesome spring events!

The Charleston Riverdogs is a minor-league baseball team affiliated with the New York Yankees. Their beloved stadium, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, will host their first game of the season on Thursday, April 6th at 7:05PM. These baseball games feature ball park food and drinks and are sure to be fun for all ages. Akers Ellis property manager Dalton Pearce says, “I’m an Atlanta Braves fan, but when I can’t make it to Atlanta to enjoy a game, I love watching the Riverdogs play. It feels just like the big leagues.”

The 27th Annual Folly Beach Sea and Sand Festival will take place on Folly Beach starting on April 7th and continuing on the 8th. This event will have over 80 food vendors, a kid’s zone, mechanical bull, corn hole, silent auction, live music, and so much more. Join many others to explore the streets of Folly Beach. Festival entry is $5. Children under 10 years of age have free entry.

The South Carolina Aquarium, located in downtown Charleston, is hosting an event titled World-Famous Weeki Wachee Mermaids. Live mermaids from Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida, will provide hours of entertainment for the young and young at heart from 10AM-4PM daily every weekend from March 31st to April 15th. On Thursday, April 6th from 6:00-8:30, there will be a special event where you can watch mermaid dives and meet the magical mermaids, all while eating dinner. This event is the perfect way to entertain your children while on Spring Break!

Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant is hosting a Lowcountry Strawberry Festival from April 20th-23rd. This event is very family-friendly and features festival rides, acrobatic dog show, petting zoo, playground, and inflatables. Children will also love picking their own strawberries in the U-pick strawberry fields. Tickets are $10 for ages 12 and up, $5 for ages 3-11, and free for children 2 and under. Akers Ellis sales coordinator Dana Santerre says, “I went to the festival last year with my daughter and we had a wonderful time. Her favorite part was picking a basket full of berries to take home. We can’t wait to attend this year!”

On April 30th, the Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival will return for its 30th year. This festival pays tribute to Mount Pleasant’s local shrimping and fishing industry. It is presented by Harris Teeter and East Cooper Medical Center and will showcase a boat parade, seafood samplings, live music, and a craft show.
