turtle patrol kiawah island

Every summer on Kiawah Island, South Carolina, something remarkable happens. Along our scenic beaches, sea turtles emerge from their nests, beginning their journey to the ocean.

So far this season, the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol has recorded approximately 2,928 hatchlings from an estimated 14,000 eggs. These numbers reflect months of careful monitoring and dedicated volunteer work, all aimed at giving each turtle the best possible start.

If you’re visiting or living on Kiawah Island, your support matters. Please flatten sandcastles, fill in any beach holes, turn off lights, and always dispose of trash properly. These small actions help ensure each hatchling has a clear and safe path to the ocean.

The Turtle Patrol’s efforts don’t just protect sea turtles—they help preserve the fragile ecosystem that makes Kiawah Island one of the most cherished beach destinations in South Carolina.

By staying mindful and informed, we all contribute to this ongoing story of conservation and coastal beauty.
