Are you visiting the beautiful South Carolina Lowcountry this month? You made a great decision because not only is the weather perfect, but there are also numerous fun Halloween and fall activities for all ages.
The Lowcountry is a geographic and cultural region along South Carolina’s coast, including the Sea Islands (like Kiawah and Seabrook Islands). Since are many different areas of this region, in which each has its own unique atmosphere and happenings, here are a few favorite places that would make for a memorable and entertaining vacation.
You can start by visiting nearby Legare Farms on Johns Island. Here you will find a large pumpkin patch, nature quest, hayrides (haunted and non-haunted), horse rides, gem mines, fish and turtle feedings, corn cannons, and duck races. It’s great for kids! The farm is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. One of its popular events, Haunted House, Trail of Terror and Haunted Hayride, is offered for two nights only on October 21 and 22. Kids under 10 years of age are not permitted. Make sure to pick a good pumpkin, and have fun at the farm!
Not too far is the stunning Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in the West Ashley community of Charleston. Hosting their 8th annual Family Fright Night, this exciting event offers monster games, haunted train rides, pirate stories, Mad Scientist Lab, hay-bale maze, pony rides, face painting, children’s games, family photo booth, costume contests, and more! Open October 21-22 and October 28-29. No matter which activity you choose, you’re guaranteed an entertaining time!
Another fantastic event is at Boone Hall Plantation located in the town of Mount Pleasant, just outside of Charleston. The vast Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch draws statewide visitors of all ages and boasts a variety of fall attractions and events. Some of the main attractions include a corn maze, two very large jump pillows, family friendly monster hayrides, a giant three-stories tall slide, rock climbing walls, and much more! Open every day of the week, this is a Lowcountry tradition that you won’t want to miss.
Even if you’re not in the mood for a festive activity, there’s always something to do around here. Many of our Kiawah Island vacation rental guests rave about the sunset cruises, and this time of year would be the perfect time to experience it. Freshfields Village is also a fun-filled place that has something for everyone. You can eat at one of many delicious restaurants, shop local stores for unique gifts from Carolina Girls or Islands Mercantile, enjoy homemade ice cream at Marble Slab Creamery, or join a wine and cheese tasting at FortyEight Wine Bar. A featured event this month is Music at the Porch Bar on October 20 with music by The Joy Project accompanied by wine and cocktails.
